General
The Seminole Sharks swim and dive team is a recreational team in Madison’s All-City Swim League. The summer season consists of seven dual meets and culminates in one of the largest outdoor swim meets in the country. There are few things more exciting than 1,800 swimmers all competing at a single meet! So big that it even gets covered by local TV & newspapers!
Last year, the Seminole Sharks swim team had about 170 swimmers and 30 divers. Participants compete against others their own age, boys and girls separately. The age groups are 8 & under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15 & up. The age group that the swimmer competes in is based on their age on June 1.
Practices are weekday mornings & meets (link to meets) are typically on Saturday mornings for swimmers, Friday evenings for divers. Team members are encouraged to attend at least three practices per week.
Meets are not mandatory, but you must swim at least 3 dual meets to participate in the All City meet. Swimmers and divers are encouraged to attend as many meets and practices as they can, but all levels of participation are well received. Doing both swim and dive team is certainly encouraged.
Why Swimming?
For many families, swimming is not the first sport that comes to mind. Soccer, basketball, football & baseball occupy those first thoughts. Swimming is different than those sports in that it involves both team & individual components. Seminole swim team consists of members who enjoy swim team for the recreation and exercise it provides, while others may be trying to set pool records. Seminole welcomes both, and offers low-key competition while improving swimming abilities.
